National association donates $500 and invites electric cooperatives to support the beloved literacy program
The Statewide Editors Association will always love Dolly Parton—and the hope she placed in the hands of millions of children, one book at a time.
In tribute to the beloved singer, songwriter and humanitarian, SEA is donating $500 to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The association also encourages electric cooperatives and others across the cooperative network to honor Parton’s legacy by supporting the childhood literacy program.
“Dolly showed us that a book can open a door, spark a dream and change the course of a child’s life,” said SEA President Leon Espinoza. “Her generosity reached deep into rural America. This gift is a small way to say thank you—and to help her extraordinary work keep turning pages.”
Rural electric cooperatives have long worked with the Imagination Library to deliver free, age-appropriate books each month to children from birth to age 5, including families in underserved rural communities.
Parton created the Imagination Library in 1995 in her home county in East Tennessee, inspired by her father’s inability to read and write. The program now operates in five countries, mails more than 3 million books each month and has gifted more than 300 million free books worldwide.
Parton’s music made her an icon. Her commitment to literacy made possibility feel real for generations of children. SEA is grateful for that enduring legacy.
